My name's Evelyn, but all my friends call me Evie, and I'm freaking STOKED you're here. I'm a California-based HOT MESS. That's pretty much my professional title, honestly. (Officially though, it's "photographer and business educator, influencer." but that's boring sooo...)
If you're ready for some friggin weird dance moves, awkward real life stories, the coolest adventures + couples, and some real life tips, tools, and strategies... you're in the right place. Let's be bffs. I'll bring the wine. ;)
Let’s be real.
Instagram feels like it has the ability to suck the life outta us at times.
While it’s such an amazing tool for entrepreneurs and business owners to market themselves, it can also be a pain in the butt to manage. The algorithm is hard enough to pinpoint, but what about when you don’t know what to write for content? All enjoyment goes flyinggggg out the door + soon Instagram seems like our worst nightmare.
Yep, we’ve ALL been there. It doesn’t have to remain like this. Let’s knock out the reasons you might be hating instagram because whether you like it or not, your biz NEEDS it.
In this day and age, your captions need to tell a story. They need to hook your followers in to learning more about you, your business, and your community.
More than anything, people love to feel connected.
It’s what will draw them to you. It’s what will bring them back wanting more of your content. Make sure that you plan into the entertainment factor as well. You could be telling a story… but if it’s not engaging, your followers are going to scroll away faster than you can imagine. As humans, we want to feel something. We want to know that we aren’t alone. We want to celebrate the highs with our favorite people, and empathize with them during the lows. You might think that this doesn’t apply to your instagram in a business sense, but you are DEAD WRONG.
One of the biggest things my social media team & I do is focus on building that connection with each and every one of my followers. We show up daily. We serve our community. We provide value. We prove to each and every person that they belong and are wanted here.
Bottom line is: Captions are key.
But to be totally honest… it goes a lot further than that too. Are you engaging with followers on THEIR posts? Are you replying to DMs?
Captions are where you START the conversation & connection, but it certainly isn’t where the connection ends.
Now that I’ve (hopefully) nailed ya in the head with the facts that CONNECTION MATTERS, I’ll throw some mega-helpful tips at you for HOW to create this connecting, converting content:
When deciding what to post, try to stray away from content that’s too short, includes pointless calls to action, or little to no emotional response. Instead, ask yourself the following:
Does this caption enhance the photo to provide value to my followers? Or am I just saying something to say something?
Will reading the caption improve someone’s day? (This can be either through encouragement or education.)
So now you’re probable like… “Evie! What exactly do I post?” I’ve gotchu covered:
Share a client’s story. Share a personal moment from your life. Post a tip you learned from your business experience. Serve the heck out of your ideal clients. Speak directly to them. Give them the info they want and need. This means sitting down and thinking through what your ideal client is looking for, or posting a poll on your instagram stories to see what of your content brings value to them. This builds trust. It builds a relationship. You are providing your potential clients or customers with value before they ever make a purchase.
Lastly, invite them into the conversation with a call to action. This will open up the door to communication with your community. Build those relationships in the comments section fam!
I hope you’re feeling a little sigh of relief here. Every caption doesn’t have to feel like an earth-shattering education tip or heart-to-heart conversation, it just has to connect. These tips + ideas should take you a long way in effectively connecting with your people on the gram!!!
Was this helpful?! Would LOVVVE to know how else I can serve you in making instagram easier + more enjoyable!
